I had the idea to start a first year teacher blog a long time ago. It was going to be how I teach in twelve schools. I teach 5th-grade orchestra in the Troy School District in Troy, Michigan and I teach at twelve elementary schools. I go to 5 schools a day (4 on Wednesday) and see each school for 40 minutes, twice a week. I have a co-teacher, and we team teach everything. I lead teach at 6 schools, he lead teachers at 6 schools. I would not be surprised if you had to read any of that twice, most people make me say at least part of that twice.
The blog was going to be all about how I thought I was walking into this great controlled experiment where I teach the same lesson to 6 schools within the same population and get to see what teaching strategies worked best.... and then quickly discovered how different it was to teach kids on the East and West sides of towns, how no two groups of kids can have the same lesson plan, how a principal makes such a big difference on the learning environment of a school, and how socio-economic differences effect education.
And now things are a little different.
